FIREFIGHTER SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES AND RIT OPERATIONS

The Firefighter Survival Techniques and RIT Training program was created in order to train firefighters in both self-survival as well as rescuing other firefighters who become lost, trapped or otherwise incapacitated during fireground operations.

Each year about 100 firefighters die in the line of duty.  In order to increase the chances of survival during a fire, firefighters must learn techniques in self-rescue, emergency procedures, rapid intervention team rescue operations and many other techniques.  By learning and practicing these skills, firefighters will become more aware of how to react and how to perform in the event an emergency situation arises.

In addition to the skills that will be learned in this program, firefighters will also learn that firefighter safety can be increased through the use of:

            Effective incident command

            Risk management principals

Knowledge of building construction and fire
            behavior

            Accountability systems

            Rapid Intervention Teams

            Fireground rehabilitation and on-scene medical
            evaluations
